7 souls for Christ
Yesterday, a remarkable event unfolded in Sierra Leone as the labor of love bore fruit with the baptism of 7 souls into the kingdom of the Lord. The journey to this momentous occasion began with the establishment of a denominational church named “Church of Christ” in Sagbama, Sierra Leone, approximately two years ago. However, upon learning of this church, Peter Makundu, the Director of Bear Valley Bible Institute in Kenema, Sierra Leone, took proactive steps to assess the authenticity of its adherence to the true teachings of the New Testament.
Following a thorough investigation, it became evident that the “Church of Christ” in question was a denomination that had adopted the name rather than embodying the true essence of the church as depicted in the New Testament. Subsequently, a team of experienced preachers was dispatched, and on the 10th of December, 8 individuals were baptized, and the church consented to embrace the genuine pattern of worship and teachings outlined in the New Testament.
On the 17th of December, I had the privilege of worshipping with this church, at the behest of my host, Peter Makundu. Following a sermon on the topic “Listen to Jesus,” 7 individuals made the decision to embrace the faith as New Testament Christians. During the baptism, a touching incident occurred when one of the individuals displayed fear of the water. In a heartwarming gesture, Peter Makundu stepped forward to assist, inadvertently leading to the immersion of both himself and the individual, resulting in the loss of his android phone. Despite this unforeseen turn of events, the focus remained on the joyous occasion; with the understanding that souls are of greater significance than material possessions.
Looking ahead, Peter has pledged to revisit the church next week, with the anticipation of further spiritual growth and an expanded harvest. Out of the 38 members of the church, 15 have now embraced the faith as New Testament Christians. Their immediate requirements include Bibles and other literature essential for nurturing and strengthening the church.
My wife and I are filled with excitement at the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the church and to be instruments in the vineyard of the Lord. This journey of faith and transformation in Sagbema, Sierra Leone, serves as a testament to the enduring power of love, faith, and the unwavering commitment to the teachings of the New Testament.
